WEEK 4: 52 STORIES OF INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN

It all began with a Handstand!

This is Anne Marshall’s Story.

WELCOME TO WEEK 4 of 52 Inspirational Stories of Women! The project is designed to recognize 52 inspiring Women, celebrating the everyday women who make a difference in our lives.

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

It all started with a handstand.

Picture this: I’m ten, and it’s a lazy Sunday morning. My friend and I are in my living room, upside down, seeing who can stay up the longest. I’m winning, legs wobbling in the air, when my dress flips over my head. And that’s when my mum spots it—the dreaded first sign of ‘growing up.’

With a gentle nudge, she sends my friend home and sits me down for ‘the talk.’ Cue the waterworks, from both of us. What followed was a rollercoaster of painful periods and too many hospital trips. It felt so unfair. I was dealing with this agony way before any of my friends even knew what a period was.

Fast forward through my teens and twenties, and guess what’s still hanging around? The pain. Doctor visits became my hobby, and I swear some thought I was just making it up. Then, in the midst of trying to start a family, I met this one doctor who suggested endometriosis and that surgery could make a difference. I was quick to sign up! And there it was, clear as day—endometriosis had been crashing inside me all along. Finally, a diagnosis. The relief was huge, even my mum breathed easier. She’d had her doubts, but she never stopped fighting for me.

After the tears dried up, it was time for action. With guidance from my doctor, I embarked on a transformative journey. I scrutinized my lifestyle, purging anything that could disrupt my hormonal equilibrium. My diet and skincare became conduits of healing, and I emerged a completely different person. With my beauty therapy background, I started whipping up my own skincare—stuff that was safe, effective, and didn’t cost a fortune. The first batch was made in Greece, and it was natural and pure.

At thirty-five, I found my purpose. My diagnosis did not define me; it propelled me toward my greatest achievements: the creation of Seven Islands Skincare and the blessing of my daughter. My story is a testament to resilience and the power of perseverance.

For anyone who suspects they might be enduring endometriosis, let my narrative be a source of strength. Persist, seek answers, and never settle for pain as your normal.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I formulate and create the most luxurious, effective, safe, and all-natural skincare for women. Women deserve to feel confident in their choice of skincare for themselves, their daughters, sisters, and friends. No hormone disruptors, no toxins – just a healthy, holiday-fresh glow for all. Seven Islands Skincare is a holiday for your skin every day.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU?

My biggest inspiration is that no teenager, woman or person should ever experience the years of pain I went through or that feeling of guilt. The guilt that I had exposed myself to chemicals that would reach my bloodstream within 26 seconds of application. That feeling when I wondered if I had given my endometriosis just the environment it needed to thrive? What if I had ‘done this to myself?’ That feeling when doctors told my mum I was making it up. Nobody deserves to have any of these feelings or treatment from others and nobody should be exposed to toxins and hormone disruptors in their skincare. We all deserve better and I am doing my best to ensure that I continue to spread the natural skincare revolution.

HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED?

By surrounding myself with friends and family who believe in me. I am inspired every day that I see a teen online overloading themselves with numerous products and chemicals in their skincare. It makes me strive harder and keep putting one step in front of the other. These teens (and so many others) don’t know better. But so many of us do now know better. I need to keep educating and spreading the healthy skin glow via safe and natural skincare.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

What is it you strive for? If it can happen for others, then why not you? Persistence, mindset and belief are three huge drivers that will see you succeed so that you can achieve whatever it is that drives your ‘why’. If I can do it, so can you.

HOW DO YOU GET PAST SELF-DOUBT?

By reminding myself that I am no different to those who have walked before me or have created their own path. We were all born equal, it’s what we do with it. I worked for a charity for over 20 years and if those in poverty can continue to inspire me with their achievements then I know I can inspire others too. We are all creating our path.
