WEEK 5: 52 STORIES OF INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN

Creating a Positive Footprint in the World!

This is Carmen Ellis’s story

WELCOME TO WEEK 5 of 52 Inspirational Stories of Women! The project is designed to recognize 52 inspiring Women, celebrating the everyday women who make a difference in our lives.

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

My journey into the world of taking guests to swim with whales began with a deep-rooted passion for marine life and a desire to share the awe-inspiring experience of swimming alongside these majestic creatures. It all started during a transformative trip to a remote island where I had the opportunity to witness humpback whales in their natural habitat. The profound connection I felt in that moment sparked a vision to create meaningful experiences for others seeking adventure and connection with nature. This led me to start this business, driven by my passion for nature, concern for the environment, and desire to make a positive difference in the world.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

As a businesswoman, I specialize in organising and facilitating unforgettable experiences for guests to swim with whales in various locations across the globe. My team and I meticulously plan each excursion, ensuring safety protocols are followed while maximizing the opportunity for guests to interact ethically and respectfully with these magnificent creatures. Beyond providing once-in-a-lifetime adventures, I also prioritise environmental conservation and sustainable tourism practices, aiming to leave a positive impact on the destinations we visit.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU?

The awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world and the profound connection I felt with whales during my own encounters served as the primary inspiration behind my business. Witnessing these gentle giants in their natural habitat stirred something deep within me, igniting a passion to share that experience with others and foster a greater appreciation for marine life and conservation efforts

HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED?

To stay inspired, I surround myself with like-minded individuals who share my passion for marine conservation and sustainable tourism. Additionally, I continuously seek out new experiences and educational opportunities that deepen my understanding of whales and their ecosystems. Whether it’s attending marine biology workshops, collaborating with environmental organisations, or simply spending time in nature, I find that immersing myself in the beauty of the natural world renews my sense of purpose and motivation.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Follow your passion wholeheartedly and never underestimate the power of perseverance. Building a business centered around environmental conservation and ethical tourism may present its challenges, but staying true to your values and remaining committed to your cause will ultimately lead to greater impact and fulfillment. Surround yourself with a supportive network, educate yourself on the issues you’re passionate about, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to creating positive change.

HOW DO YOU GET PAST SELF-DOUBT?

Self-doubt is a natural part of any entrepreneurial journey, but I’ve learned to overcome it by focusing on my strengths, celebrating small victories, and embracing failure as an opportunity for growth. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of mentors and peers has also been invaluable in moments of self-doubt, providing encouragement and perspective when I need it most. By reframing challenges as opportunities for learning and growth, I’ve been able to push past self-doubt and stay focused on my vision.

WHAT GIVES YOU HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF WOMEN?

the growing momentum of female empowerment movements and the increasing recognition of women’s contributions across all sectors of society. As more women break barriers, shatter stereotypes, and lead by example, I am optimistic that future generations will inherit a world where gender equality is not only the norm but celebrated and embraced..
