WEEK 12: 52 STORIES OF INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN

The Making of a Mentor: Sarah’s Journey to Empowerment

This is Sarah Cincotta’s Story

WELCOME TO WEEK 12 of 52 Inspirational Stories of Women! The project is designed to recognize 52 inspiring Women, celebrating the everyday women who make a difference in our lives.

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

I’ve always felt like an outsider, struggling to find my place in the world. My life began with a battle, born breech with the umbilical cord around my neck. High school brought depression and PCOS, which I masked with birth control to avoid acne mockery. I envied the girls with braces while I hid my smile.

My confidence grew as my acne cleared, and at 16, I finally got attention from boys. I mistook sexual abuse for affection, naively thinking it meant they liked me! At 19, I moved out, believing I’d found love at 17. He was charming, but I didn’t love myself enough to see the abuse coming. For six years, I endured physical and mental torment, but my ambition and resilience never waned. I left him and traveled to America and Canada, feeling free for the first time.

I’ve had many roles: checkout chick, receptionist, makeup artist, hairdresser, retail manager, and then real estate. At 29, my past caught up with me—a benign liver tumor from too much estrogen and stress. I underwent surgery, losing half my liver, and ended a relationship to focus on healing. This was my first rebirth, forcing me to reevaluate my life. It was at that point in my life I found my calling in real estate, and became a high-performing Business Development Manager across Australia.

During the pandemic, I met a man online who opened my eyes to a new world. I underwent a second rebirth, finding my purpose. I engaged in kinesiology, found a mentor, discovered my values, and learned to love myself. I left my job for a values-aligned business, started my mentorship business, and moved in with the man who changed my life. I committed to always having a mentor, and embracing personal evolution. A year later, I became a full-time solo business owner.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

It has now been a fulfilling two years that I have been in business, I mentor, train, coach, and inspire Business Development Managers in real estate across Australia and New Zealand. I’m also a keynote speaker, presenting at workshops and planning days.

My mission: to help BDMs gain the skills and confidence to thrive in life and their careers.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU?

My inspiration came from firsthand experience. The BDM role was stigmatized and masculine, with little support for personal and professional development. I saw a gap in the industry and, encouraged by loved ones, I transitioned from employee to entrepreneur, determined to make a difference.

HOW DO YOU STAY INSPIRED?

I stay inspired by reviewing my purpose, values, and feedback from those I’ve worked with. Surrounding myself with like-minded people and reflecting on my growth keeps me accountable and aware of life’s possibilities.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

To make a difference, be clear on your purpose and commit to it. Success takes time but will come if you embody the change you seek. Your actions today shape your future.

HOW DO YOU GET PAST SELF-DOUBT?

Self-love, awareness, and mindfulness have helped me tackle self-doubt. Journaling has been a powerful tool for clarifying thoughts, challenging negative beliefs, and setting positive intentions.

WHAT GIVES YOU HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF WOMEN?

The boldness and collaboration of the women around me gives me hope. These movements will shape the future for women everywhere.
